The Burgwall im Elbholz is a small Slavic castle wall northeast of Gartow in Lower Saxony. The ring wall, which is located in a wooded area near the Elbe, is largely preserved.
The castle wall is located in the approximately 300-year-old Elbholz alluvial forest near some fishermen's cottages. The complex is already marked on a map from 1695 with the designation die Burgk. Today, the wall is 15 metres wide and 2 metres high and forms a circular complex with a diameter of 45 metres. In the past, the wall measured about 7 meters at the bottom and was estimated to be up to 5 meters high. It consisted of a wooden box construction filled with soil. In front of it was a ditch 2 meters deep and about 10 meters wide, which is now completely backfilled. It contains thick sand deposits, which are also present in the vicinity of the castle wall, but not inside. This suggests that it was washed over by flood events.
