Albris Free School

The Freie Schule Albris is a private replacement school in Kempten and Buchenberg in the Allgäu region. Until 2009, it was called Freie Waldorfschule Kempten. The school refers to itself as: “Die Freie Schule Albris e. V. Unified People's and Higher School of Man in the Educational Art of Rudolf Steiner.” The school has been developing a property in Albris, a district of Buchenberg, since 1999. The move of the school mostly took place in 2015. Currently, about 300 students attend the school. It is possible to obtain a Hauptschulabschluss, Mittlere Reife, or Abitur through an external examination. The Freie Schule Albris also includes several playgroups, childcare facilities, and an after-school care program.
The school was founded in 1974 by Sigurd Böhm as Freie Waldorfschule Kempten. It was initially a member of the Association of Freie Waldorfschulen, but in 1987, due to differences, it reached a court settlement, leading to the withdrawal of Freie Waldorfschule Kempten from the Association of Freie Waldorfschulen. It was allowed to keep the name Waldorfschule for the time being. Until 1989, there was briefly a second Waldorfschule in Kempten as competition, which was recognized by the Association of Freie Waldorfschulen. However, this had to close again due to a lack of students.
