Wilhelm Griesinger Hospital

The Wilhelm Griesinger Hospital was a clinic complex built and opened at the end of the 19th century east of the Berlin city limits for the treatment of epilepsy patients. Initially, the facility was operated as an institution for epileptics in Wuhlgarten near Biesdorf. The clinic was named after the neurologist Wilhelm Griesinger in 1968 and retained this name until around 1992. From this point on, the entire hospital site came under the responsibility of the Vivantes Group and operated as Vivantes Klinikum Hellersdorf. Since 2011, a gradual handover of the remaining buildings has been taking place under the management of the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin, while the medical departments of Vivantes are being relocated to the new main site in Kaulsdorf, which is again called Vivantes Klinikum Hellersdorf. Since 1989, all buildings on the Wuhlgarten site have been under monument protection.
The Wilhelm Griesinger Hospital occupied an area of 100,000 square meters, divided in a north-south direction by the already existing street layout of Kirsch-/Eichenallee. The entire avenue is marked on city maps as Brebacher Weg.
