The Yellow Barracks was an impressive building complex built in the Wilhelminian Baroque style in the East Quarter of Aachen, whose name refers to its yellow brick facade. The structure was erected by the then Prussian government outside the Aachen city center and was put into operation on September 20, 1882, and was demolished in the 1960s during the construction of new residential complexes and the establishment of Kennedy Park. Throughout its tumultuous history, the Yellow Barracks was alternately used by several military units as well as police forces and served as an emergency shelter for the returning Aachen population after World War II. Today, only eight columns from the entrance area remain, marking the main access to Kennedy Park.
