Lützelburg

The Lützelburg is a castle ruin and thus also a archaeological monument in Kempten. Exact dates regarding its origin and ownership are not known. Johann Baptist Haggenmüller refers in his historical book published in 1840, "History of the City and the Principality County of Kempten," to a wooden bridge between the Burghalde located just a few meters further north and the Lützelburg in the 11th century. There are no proper documents known for this. According to Joseph Meirhofer, the castles were connected by a "path."
In one of the oldest overall views of the city, a woodcut by Hanß Abelin and Hanß Rogel from the year 1569, there is still a castle on the hill. In an illustration from 1673, drawn by Matthäus Merian, the Lützelburg is depicted as a ruin.
