The Sondergericht Mannheim was the Baden special court during the time of National Socialism. It existed from 1933 to 1945.
The National Socialist Reich government issued a regulation in March 1933 for the establishment of special courts. These were initially responsible for offenses listed in the Reichstag Fire Decree and the Treachery Decree. The regulations were aimed at opponents of National Socialism. A special court was established in each higher regional court district. In Baden, the special court responsible for the district of the Higher Regional Court of Karlsruhe was not set up in the capital Karlsruhe, but in Mannheim, because the Baden Ministry of Justice believed that most cases for adjudication would occur in Mannheim, the largest city in the country and a stronghold of social democrats and communists in Baden. The special court was located at the Mannheim District Court in Mannheim Palace.
