Landsberger Virgin's Leap

The Jungfernsprung in Landsberg am Lech is a half-tower along the southern city wall from the 14th century. In the 19th century, it was significantly raised to install a water pressure tank. At that time, the legend arose that in 1633, girls and women had jumped to their deaths into the Lech out of fear of the atrocities committed by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War. In fact, some women did take their lives at that time, and their names are still recorded in the church register today. However, the tower is too far from the Lech and was also too low in 1633 to explain such an event, and the course of the Lech has not changed significantly there. The tower got its name from this legend.
The tower is part of the interrupted old city wall and is now used as a viewing platform. To the right lies the transformer house, which was once the keep and thus the highest tower in the city.
