The Stephanplatz is a square in the western downtown of Karlsruhe. Regular markets are held in the square, which was established in 1901, and there is an underground parking garage underneath it. The square is used for public viewing during large sporting events.
The naming of the Stephanplatz goes back to Heinrich von Stephan. Von Stephan was the director of the Imperial Post of the German Empire, fittingly, the square borders the former main post office building of Karlsruhe.
