Glatfelter Gernsbach GmbH is a specialty paper manufacturer in Gernsbach. The former paper mill Schoeller & Hoesch GmbH & Co. KG was acquired by P. H. Glatfelter Company in 1998, under whose name it has operated since 2007.
Felix Heinrich Schoeller, son of the Düren paper manufacturer Heinrich August Schoeller of Schoellershammer, and Georg Schultz founded the cellulose factory "Schultz & Cie" in 1881 on the site of a former grinding mill. Already in 1884, a company health insurance fund was established. Due to increasing complaints from residents about odor nuisance and rising competitive pressure, the production of pulp was discontinued in 1902. Instead, two paper machines were installed. In 1904, the production of silk and cigarette paper began. After Hugo Hoesch from the Rhenish industrial family Hoesch joined the company as plant manager, it was renamed "Silk and Cigarette Paper Factory Schoeller & Hoesch GmbH" in 1905. The specialization in coarse papers proved to be very successful, soon making up a significant part of the business. The company pension scheme was established in 1907.
