The Alexander-Lebenstein-Realschule Haltern am See is the only secondary school in the Westphalian town of Haltern am See. It shares a building complex with the Joseph-König-Gymnasium.
In December 1966, the council of the city of Haltern passed a resolution to establish a secondary school. In 1967, it began teaching as the Städtische Realschule Haltern in the rooms of the youth home of the parish of St. Laurentius. In the second year of its existence, rooms of the Eichendorff Primary School could be used. In December 1970, the Marl architect Hans Hansen won the architectural competition for the construction of the new school centre. On 1 August 1974, with the completion of the first construction phase of the Haltern school centre, the secondary school moved into its new premises.
