The Heimathaus in Pfronten is an old timber-framed building listed among the monuments of Pfronten. The original building was relocated twice to a new site.
In the late Middle Ages, hospices were increasingly established, where poor and sick people from the local area, as well as passing pilgrims, could find refuge. In southern Ostallgäu, such welfare institutions were created in 1465 in Füssen, 1501 in Marktoberdorf, and 1503 in Nesselwang. In between, a similar foundation was established in the neighboring Vils in Tyrol, and two years earlier also in Pfronten. The term for this "social station" is not always the same. In Pfronten, it was called Seelhaus or Elendenherberge, later then Spital.
