The Riegelstein telecommunications tower is a 135-meter high telecommunications tower of Deutsche Funkturm. It is located on the summit plateau of the Hohen Reut between the two districts of Betzenstein, Spies and Riegelstein in the Franconian Switzerland, a little west of the A9 motorway. Structurally, it is a type tower of the type FMT 2. Hiking paths lead to the summit plateau of the Hohen Reut, which start in Spies and Riegelstein. From the western outskirts of Schermshöhe, a narrow access road branches off from BT 30, leading up to the area of the telecommunications tower site.
In addition to the non-public microwave and mobile communications, the Riegelstein telecommunications tower served for a long time as a filler transmitter for analog television to illuminate the area that was difficult to serve. With the switch to DVB-T, the analog television programs were discontinued without replacement.
