The powerful structure with a cruciform floor plan was built from 1740 to 1745 by the Passau master builder Severin Goldberger. Construction errors required modifications as early as the 18th century, and the north tower could only be completed in 1896.
The length of the cross arms of the central building corresponds to the height of the room. Only the west gallery still carries stucco from the construction period; the rest, as well as the frescoes, were only added between 1888 and 1890. The stucco marble altars from 1743 and 1744 were created by Augustin Franz Kämpfl. The painting on the high altar was done by Paul Troger. It depicts the Assumption of Mary. The pulpit from 1746 was built by a master Gigl.
