The Knights of St. John's Commendation of the Holy Sepulchre was a commendation of the Order of St. John in Goslar, which existed from the 13th to the 16th century. Of the buildings that were destroyed in the Goslar riots in 1527, only minor remnants have been preserved on the street Am Heiligen Grabe.
The first mention of the Order's settlement dates back to 1214. The property was located northwest outside the city fortifications in front of the Vititor. The patronage of the burial and resurrection place of Jesus reminds us of the origin of the order in Jerusalem and at the same time means a visualization of this pilgrimage destination, which was unreachable for most people at the time. Accordingly, the monastery church included a central building as a replica of the Holy Sepulchre. The monastery complex, which stretched east to today's post office, included a hospital in accordance with the order's mission.
