The Old Sydekum, also known as Südeküm, is a listed building located in the old town of Hann. It is not to be confused with the New Sydekum, which was built in 1783 as a hotel elsewhere in Munich.
The lower part of the old Sydekum was originally a round rampart of the medieval city fortifications of Munich and was one of the most important defensive buildings in the city. It was located in the north-west corner of the city, at the level of the Schlagdspitze, which is formed by the Bremer and the Wanfrieder Schlagd. The rampart was integrated into the city wall. Next to the rampart, the Fish Gate was a wall tower-like structure that allowed people to pass through the city wall. The fish gate disappeared during the partial removal of the city's fortifications in the 1830s. In 1729, the Old Sydekum was given a multi-storey house with a square plan and a wine tavern under the name of Sydekum. Grimm's dictionary cites the Sydekum of Munich as an example of a Low German form of "Sieh dich um". It is a place from where you can look around or a summer house with a beautiful view.
