The village church of Lohmen is a fieldstone structure that was built after 1285. The patronage has been held by the Dobbertin Monastery since the 13th century. Lohmen is located in the south of the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is part of the Rostock Provostry in the Mecklenburg church district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany.
Lohmen was first mentioned in a deed of donation on September 28, 1225, when Prince Heinrich Borwin II of Mecklenburg donated the village of Lohme with all its arable land to the Dobbertin Monastery. His sons Johann of Mecklenburg and Nikolaus I of Werle confirmed on August 28, 1227 in Güstrow the assets granted to the Dobbertin Monastery by their deceased father two years earlier, including the village of Lome. It is likely a legacy from the Slavic period, as the name is interpreted as a place of stone or windfall. Prince Nicolaus of Rostock certified on November 23, 1237 in Güstrow the Dobbertin nuns of the borders of the monastery's estate and their possession of the village of Lohmen. In 1263, Pope Urban IV placed the Dobbertin Monastery and its estates and rights, including the patronage of Lohmen ius patronatus in the village of Lumene, under his protection.
