The Detmold City Library is the municipal library of the city of Detmold. Since 1985, it has been located in the classicist building at Leopoldstraße 5, which was originally the seat of the Leopoldinum, the oldest Detmold grammar school.
The predecessor of the city library was the library of the Detmold Education Association. The association, founded in 1881, provided a library for its members from the beginning, which could also be used by the public from 1909. The book stock was acquired by the city in November 1935 and became the property of the state government in April 1940. The whereabouts are unknown.
