The Old Lutheran Church at Kolk is the second oldest church in the Wuppertal district of Elberfeld, after the Old Reformed Church, and one of five places of worship of the Protestant congregation of Elberfeld-Nord.
In Elberfeld, which was strongly influenced by Calvinism in the 17th century, there were only a few Lutherans after the Reformation, who mostly had to practice their religion privately and were cared for by the surrounding Lutheran parishes of Schwelm and Lüttringhausen. In 1694, they chose Heinrich Trippler as their own pastor, and the right to private religious practice was confirmed shortly thereafter by the Elector.
