The Pirna City Library is a public library in Pirna. It has a collection of over 60,000 media.
Through extensive renovation, the old citizens' house, which today houses the Pirna City Library, was saved from decay and made accessible to the public through its new use. The history of the building in the old town of Pirna dates back to the founding of the city around the year 1200 and is closely connected to that of the neighboring Dominican monastery. Oral traditions indicate that the northern part of the house was the home of the monastery abbot. To what extent the building belonged to the monastery and for what purpose it served has not yet been definitively clarified. Based on research evaluations, it is assumed that during the phase of the construction of the first massive houses after the founding of the city, two adjacent parcels were built on Dohnaische Gasse, and the two "core buildings" represented what later became the large estate. Throughout the following epochs, more and more was added to the house, so that the two standalone "core buildings" were later connected. From the early times of the beginning, the present cellar, the Gothic Hall, and parts of the upper floor have been preserved. The Gothic Hall provides a dignified setting for events of all kinds and is also available for private rental. Particularly characteristic of this room is the richly painted wooden beam ceiling from shortly after 1470. The painted wooden beam ceilings on the first floor are also very worth seeing, with motifs that can also be found sporadically on the walls. With a little imagination, one can envision the splendor of the rooms in the late 17th century. Only remnants of the smoke vent of the so-called "black kitchen" from the old kitchen of the house are visible in the current staircase.
