The Carolabrücke is a 187 m long railway bridge that spans the Elbe between Bad Schandau and Rathmannsdorf at river kilometer 11.86.
The bridge was constructed from 1874 to 1877 as part of the construction of the Bautzen–Bad Schandau railway line at track kilometer 63.3. The structure originally consisted of two superstructures, one for rail traffic on the downstream side and a parallel one for road traffic on the upstream side, with the superstructures resting on common pillars and abutments. In the 1970s, the condition of the structure no longer met the traffic loads. Road traffic was managed as one-way traffic with signal control. For trains, the structure was a slow-speed area.
