Bornhorst Stork Nest

Every spring, many Oldenburgers look curiously at a barn roof in Klein-Bornhorster Straße, because for many decades there has been a stork nest here, which is occupied at irregular intervals and is also inhabited in 2016. For years, this has been the only accepted nest in the city area. In order to provide citizens with more information about the stork and to make it clear why this nest in particular is so important for the stork population in the region, representatives of the city and Udo Hilfers from the Wesermarsch stork care station inaugurated an information box in 2015 under the watchful eye of the stork.

In addition to general information about the white stork, interested parties can read about the development of the stork population or a stork nest observation over the course of the year. As can be observed again and again in the fields in the area, the Bornhorst storks are not the only stork representatives in the region. However, they are the only ones that breed. With a little luck, stork offspring can be expected around May.

The info box in Bornhorst was created through the joint commitment of the city of Oldenburg and the Wesermarsch stork station. The Büntjen company from Neusüdende, which took over the necessary locksmith work partly at its own expense, was also involved.
