Uelvesbüll, view of the Husum Bay: The scattered settlement is located on the northern coast of the Eiderstedt peninsula at Heverstrom. Numerous storm surges have caused the landscape to change repeatedly over the 800-year history of the village. The church was built in 1854 as a replacement for a predecessor built in 1300, which had been destroyed by a storm surge. Several deep ponds testify to the storm surge disasters; ponds are water holes created by a dike breach. Image/Text source: KOMPASS Verlag
