Site of a battle during the Baden Revolutions of 1848 between the forces of the revolutionary Friedrich Hecker and the army of the German Confederation under General Friedrich von Gagern. Gagern was killed in the battle, but Hecker's forces were defeated, ending his part of the revolutions. Hecker fled to Switzerland and emigrated to the United States where he served for the Union in the U.S. Civil War.
