The tower windmill
The Gildehauser Ostmühle is a Dutch tower windmill or a so-called Erdholländer. The mill was built in 1749/1750 from Bentheim sandstone and has a long eventful history behind it. It was threatened with demolition several times. Since 1986 it has been functional again and is operated and maintained by hobby millers of the Gildehaus Tourist and Beautification Association. And at Mahlwind, hobby bakers make crusty bread from the freshly ground grain in the old bakehouse next door. Guided tours for groups are possible after prior registration.
