The Kardinal-von-Galen-Gymnasium is a grammar school in Kevelaer under the sponsorship of the city. It is named after the Bishop of Münster Clemens August Graf von Galen, who publicly opposed "euthanasia" during the Third Reich and visited Kevelaer himself in 1942.
Shortly after the pilgrimage had been established in Kevelaer, the Oratorian Johannes Stalenus proposed in 1657 to establish a grammar school. However, this was rejected by the monastery because there was too much work in pastoral care.
