Darfeld-Rosenthal Abbey was a settlement of French Trappists and Trappistines in Rosendahl, part of Darfeld, in Westphalia from 1795 to 1825.
Augustin de Lestrange, who founded an exile monastery in the Charterhouse of La Valsainte in Switzerland after the suppression of all monasteries by the French Revolution in 1791 and sent numerous monks to establish further foundations, designated a group under Jean-Baptiste Desnoyers for foundation in Canada, to which they never made it. Instead, they founded the Abbey of Westmalle in July 1794 but had to flee again in July 1794 due to the advancing revolution, leading them, under Prior Arsène Durand, to Münster in October and from there to the Monastery of Marienfeld. There, Eugène de Laprade, a nobleman who had been a page to Queen Marie Antoinette and had good connections to the nobility in the Diocese of Münster as well as to Princess Amalie of Gallitzin, replaced Prior Durand, who had been dispatched to Lulworth Abbey in England.
