Black Forest National Park

The Black Forest National Park has existed since 1 January 2014 - the first and so far the only national park in Baden-Wuerttemberg. This was celebrated with a large opening party with 10,000 guests in May 2014. This was preceded by a two-year discussion process in which the region was also fully involved. On November 28, 2013, the Government of Greens and SPD subsequently approved the National Park Act in the state parliament. It also determines the further participation of the region in the new national park - through the National Park Council, which defines all major interests, and the National Park Advisory Council, which can provide expert support.

A national park is of course a long-term project - nature is in no hurry. Decades or centuries may pass before it returns to its original rhythm and the forest changes noticeably. But there is much to discover. Events such as snow breakage, animal feed or storm leave traces. And when people no longer intervene, the change becomes more visible. In the former Bann forests, for example on the Wilden See, where nature has been developing freely for 100 years, you can already see what it looks like when the forest gets wilder.
