The Schöppinger Berg (158 m) is the northern continuation of the Baumberge. From it springs "Janning's Source," named after the old Janning estate. The stream that originated from this source is generally referred to as the Leerbach. It powered the mill at the Janning estate, which has been out of operation since 1939.
A few hundred meters further, the stream had to power a second mill, which belonged to the Wilming estate for centuries and was acquired by the miller Schmedding in 1929. (The establishment of the mills likely dates back to the early Middle Ages).
Wilmings Mill (now Schmedding) had two waterwheels. One wheel was for the oil mill, which was still in operation during World War I, while the second wheel powered the grain mill. As the water supply was not always sufficient, a windmill was built above the water mill. Schmedding replaced the waterwheel with a turbine, which utilized the power of the water more efficiently. Subsequently, a diesel engine and later an electric motor were used. The mill experienced significant times for supplying the population during and in the first years after World War II, as the large mills had been largely destroyed.
