Oranienburg Nordkirchen

Description

The Oranienburg was already built in 1715 as a single-story orangery building by Peter Pictorius. Its ground floor facade is rhythmically structured by the alternation of brick blend fields and sandstone framing of the windows and doors. Notable are the recessed and rounded corners at the corner pavilions, a motif that can also be found in Schlaun's later works. He expanded the orangery from 1725 into a two-story garden casino and summer palace with a festival hall. The facade structuring of the upper floor was sensitively adapted to the ground floor, but he creatively varied the window frames. Behind the Oranienburg lay a lush parterre garden with a triangular embroidery area, followed to the west by a maze. The two side wings were added by the Duke of Arenberg in 1913/14. Today, the administration of the University of Applied Sciences for Finance is located in the Oranienburg. Concerts and events take place in the large festival hall.
