Obelisk Blauer Stein Paulinewald

This obelisk is made of Walheimer Blaustein and was erected in 1810 (during the French occupation) and commemorates Pauline of Borghese, a sister of Napoleon Bonaparte (whose real name is Charlotte). She stayed for a number of years in the nearby Trappist monastery Bergerbusch.

Obelisks were used (also earlier by Romans) to measure the land.

The outdated obelisk has been extensively renovated. It forms an impressive vantage point over the city of Aachen and a starting point for a hike through the Wurm Valley, Paulinewald and White Roads.
During the Euregional renovation in 2008, chairs were added that are reminiscent of a chaise longue on which the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova portrayed Pauline Bonaparte-Borghese as Venus.
