The August-Holländer-Museum of the city of Emsdetten was originally used as a stable building for the Deitmar estate. The last major change at the Deitmar estate occurred in 1913 when the owners converted the main house into a representative residential building. As part of these structural changes, the old barns and stables were demolished and a new agricultural building was erected. This newly constructed building had two entrances, one to the loft and one to Mühlenstraße. Inside, there was a large threshing floor, with cows and horses on the left and right, and originally a pigsty was attached to the outer wall.
In 1956, the city of Emsdetten purchased the entire estate area. In 1963, the museum moved with the then-local historical collection from the former main house to the ground floor of the agricultural building that had been converted for museum purposes. In 1989, the building was completely reconstructed while maintaining the outer walls, from the foundation to the roof ridge, and was conceptually redesigned as a textile museum.
