Description

The forest village was first mentioned in the year 1225 as Cunratesdorf. Until the beginning of the 20th century, other spellings for the place were also common, including Conratesdorpp, Cunirßdorf, or Kunnersdorff. The Sorbian place name is derived from the word hlina meaning "clay" and refers to the clayey soil.
In the Middle Ages, Cunnersdorf predominantly belonged to the Lords of Kamenz. In 1504, Cunnersdorf came into the possession of the noble family Rechenberg. Hans Joseph von Rechenberg was the owner of Cunnersdorf since 1604 but had to sell it in 1620. His son Johann Georg von Rechenberg was ten years old at that time. After that, Cunnersdorf came into the possession of the von Schleinitz family. Wolf Haubold von Schleinitz had the old water castle demolished and a new castle built elsewhere. A stone tablet dated 1700 at the manor house with the coats of arms of the spouses von Schleinitz and von Ponickau from the house of Milkel commemorated the new building. The tablet was moved after 1945 to the village church built in 1907 and, together with the church and cemetery, is listed as a protected monument.
