Birkwitz-Pratzschwitz is a locality of the town of Pirna in Saxony, which emerged in 1973 from the merger of the villages of Birkwitz and Pratzschwitz. The place has about 1400 inhabitants.
Flintstone flakes found in the Pratzschwitz area indicate early settlement. The first documentary mention occurred in the year 1350 as Birkwicz or Prautschicz. From the 17th century, both places belonged to the lordship of the Schönfeld manor, while Birkwitz had previously been under the parish of Dohna, and Pratzschwitz was subject to the cathedral chapter of Meissen or the manor of Pratzschwitz. After 1856, they belonged to the district court or the district authority of Pirna. On May 1, 1973, the new municipality was formed by the merger of the previous municipalities of Birkwitz and Pratzschwitz. On January 1, 1999, Birkwitz-Pratzschwitz was incorporated into the town of Pirna.
