Graupa is a locality located to the right of the Elbe and southeast of Dresden. Since January 1, 1999, Graupa has been a district of Pirna in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains. It consists of the parts Groß-, Klein-, and Neugraupa as well as Vorderjessen. The locality of Graupa also includes Bonnewitz.
The Graupaer Bach, which comes from the Borsberg, flows through Graupa towards Pillnitz to the Elbe. Along its course, it takes in the Tiefen Grundbach beyond the town boundary, which flows through the Tiefen Grund, a hollow valley that descends steeply from the northern Borsberg down to Kleingraupa.
