The Everyday Church is a profaned late Gothic hall church in Torgau in the district of Nordsachsen in Saxony. It is used as the auditorium of the Johann-Walter-Gymnasium Torgau.
The Everyday Church was built as the monastery church of St. Peter and Paul of the Franciscan monastery in Torgau. The building is a late Gothic hall church with a retracted, polygonal closed long choir. The first church of the monastery, founded around 1230, was consecrated in 1243 but was further constructed afterwards. The late Gothic rebuilding began around 1490 with the renewal of the choir, using the old side walls of the choir. The hall nave was created in the second decade of the 16th century. The vault was completed in 1517 by Hans Meltwitz, and further construction work was documented after 1520. In 1525, the monastery was secularized and the church was used for Protestant worship; the convent buildings were used for various purposes until their demolition took place between 1834 and 1836. Further structural changes occurred in 1811 with the establishment of a magazine, in 1833 with the incorporation of intermediate floors, in 1914 during an unfinished expansion into a garrison church, and a consecration as a "celebration site" in 1937. After 1945, the building was used as a theater, gymnasium, and auditorium for the school; the false ceiling was removed in 1996/1997. The monument-compliant renovation was carried out by the office Jäger Ingenieure GmbH.
