Description

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Joseph in Lindow was built in 1931 according to the plans of the Berlin architect Wilhelm Fahlbusch and is a listed building.

In 1926, the Catholic Chapel Building Association purchased a building lot on a hill east of downtown Lindow and raised financial assistance for the construction of the church. The day of the laying of the first stone was June 7, 1931, the consecration took place on September 22, 1931. Together with the Cistercian monastery founded around 1230 and the city's Protestant Baroque church, the church forms an important triad in terms of urban history and urban planning. Since 2014, St. Joseph's Church has been inhabited and run as a hermitage under the name of St. Bernard by a priest as a hermit. The hermitage is named after Bernhard von Clairvaux, co-founder of the Cistercian order, which means that the name should be understood as a continuation of the Lindow monastic tradition. Around the church, simple wooden houses provide accommodation for retreats and individual retreats.
