Ruppin Castle was a German castle on the plains of the Middle Ages. Until the sixteenth century, it formed the political centre of the Ruppin lordship and the Ruppin district that grew out of it. The Burgstall is located in the Alt Ruppin district of the town of Neuruppin, in the northwest of the state of Brandenburg.
Ruppin Castle was located on the Alt Ruppin Amtswerder, a peninsula north of Lake Ruppin at the confluence of the Rhine. It covered the crossing of the Ruppin chain of lakes, which divides the Ruppiner Land. Opposite the Amtswerder is the island of Poggenwerder. Until the 12th century, it was home to the Slavic castle of Ruppin, which was probably the headquarters of the Wende tribe of the Zamzizi.
