Stadtmühle Bad Düben

The town mill is a water mill built in 1538 and first mentioned in a document in 1681 on the Schwarzbach in Bad Düben.

The town mill was built in 1538 and first mentioned in 1681 as an electoral office cutting mill, in 1689 it was expanded by a fulling mill and in 1697 by a mill, and in 1708 an oil mill was added. The mill was driven exclusively by water power from the neighbouring Schwarzbach, which flows into the river Mulde just under 150 m behind the mill. In the course of a mill renovation, the city mill also received a turbine in 1886. After the fulling mill and later the oil mill had been expanded, the "Brettmühle", also known as the Schneidermühle, was shut down in 1914. In 1947, two new turbines were installed in the mill. The roller mill dates from 1940, the peeling machine from 1954 and the grinding machine from 1965. In the region, the mill is also known as the "Stadtmühle Schüßler", named after the mill owner and master miller Peter Schüßler, whose family has owned the mill since 1904. Peter Schüßler himself took over the mill in 1955 and operated it until 2016 with the production of rye flour for the surrounding bakers as well as feed meal.
