Coswig Castle is a castle located in Coswig, a town of 12,802 inhabitants in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, 13 km from Wittenberg.
The castle derives from a previous fortified construction, of which there are testimonies starting from 1187. At that time, Coswig was one of the most important settlements north of the Elbe, until imperial troops razed it to the ground in 1547 in retaliation against Prince Wolfgang of Anhalt-Köthen, a supporter of Luther from the beginning and resident at the castle.
