Dahlen is located south of the community center. To the northwest lies the forested area of Werbiger Heide. Following in a clockwise direction is the eponymous district of Werbig, followed by Benken and the municipality of Görzke. The majority of the district is forested; only in the southwest are there some areas used for agriculture. Along the northeastern border, the Verlorenwasser flows, a tributary of the Buckau.
Dahlen was first mentioned in a feudal register of Elector Joachim I in 1515. The place was referred to as deserted: “Friderich Schirstet, residing in Görtz, has with the permission of Fridrich Brant purchased a deserted village site called Dalum, which was abandoned by the aforementioned Brant, and is granted to Friedeerichen Schirstet and his male heirs as a fief.” Friedrich von Schierstedt, who acquired the deserted site from Friedrich von Brant, presumably first had a forecourt built and equipped it with 2000 acres of land. However, he did not manage this himself, but leased the estate. This likely changed in the second half of the 17th century, when the Schierstedt family had the village church built.
