The cemetery covers an area of 6.43 hectares and is located in the eastern part of Magdeburg in the Cracau district at the address Mühlweg 11. To the south runs Mühlweg, a little further west Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse, and to the east Pfeifferstraße. There is access to the cemetery from each of the roads.
In 1880, the local councilor Brandt and the lay judges Riecke and Goetze conducted negotiations for the establishment of a new cemetery on the Mühlenfeld near Cracau. A planned site on the parish fields on Krock had been deemed unwise due to a sanitary report. Until 1661, burials of the community took place on Petersilienberg and afterward in the churchyard next to the Cracau St. Briccius Church. Ultimately, the current cemetery site was acquired through a swap with the cottager Lüttgemann. The cemetery was then consecrated in 1882.
