Franziskaner was a traditional brewery founded in 1363 in Munich. Today, it belongs to the Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu GmbH, part of the Spaten-Löwenbräu group, which in turn is part of the Belgian Anheuser-Busch InBev group. Franziskaner exists only as a registered trademark and is brewed at Löwenbräu in Munich.
In 1363, the "Bräustatt bey den Franziskanern," the oldest civic brewery in Munich near the residence, founded by the licensed brewer Seidel Vaterstetter, was mentioned for the first time. The name is due to the Franciscan monastery located opposite, which lent its name to the brewery.
