The village was an independent municipality until 1972 and has since belonged to the town of Lüchow. The village centre has probably changed little since the Middle Ages and was an elongated square village in the early 19th century. Today, the village centre is characterised by predominantly well-preserved hall houses from the 19th century.
The Protestant chapel is a rectangular hall, the older eastern part of which from the 15th century is made of brick, while the western part has half-timbering from the 17th century. The free-standing wooden bell tower in the west dates from the 16th century and the bronze bell from around 1300.
