Breese in der Marsch is a village and a former municipality in the district of Lüchow-Dannenberg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The village lies northeast of the core area of Dannenberg on the edge of the Elbe valley floodplain. To the south runs the B 191.
It is a two-line row village, whose townscape underwent a complete reorganization after a devastating fire on June 28, 1834, after 55 buildings and thus almost the entire village burned down. The old village street, which runs roughly west-east, was significantly extended on both sides and served as the main settlement axis for almost all of the new farms built in October 1834. These were built on strictly right-angled plots of land with gables facing the street and built at regular intervals between each other. The few houses that were spared from the fire were included in this new planning. The oldest of these is today's house No. 53 – a two-post building from 1723 that survived all known fires in the village. It also marks the western border of the old village. The hall houses of the reconstruction are both two-post and four-post truss constructions. Old oak trees also characterize the townscape along the village street, especially in the older part of the settlement.
