The shipyard and the adjoining carpentry business were founded in 1872 by the brothers August and Christoph Eckhoff. At that time, the company premises were still located on the Ilmenau and only wood was used. The shipyard was moved three times, and it was only after the dredging of the harbour of Stöckte in 1899 that it was settled at its current location in Hoopte. Today, Christian Eckhoff runs the shipyard in its 4th generation. generation and repairs inland vessels and pleasure boats of all kinds on the slipway.
The actual harbour basin is the result of several dike breaches in 1509 and 1529, which created a deep water surface here, which was enlarged by the dike breach in 1814. The Stöckt harbour was in 1887 and from then on served raftsmen and inland waterway boatmen as a shelter and overnight harbour and also for unloading and loading goods.
