The Flensburg tax office is the tax office of the city of Flensburg, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Finance of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The building, erected in 1923/24, is one of the cultural monuments of the district of Westliche Höhe.
Even during the Danish rule, the district of Duburg served as an administrative enclave and subsequently developed into a seat for authorities. The Flensburg tax office was built there after World War I by the Reichsbauamt Flensburg based on plans by architect Wilhelm Penners, who also worked in Aachen, Cuxhaven, Kiel, Königsberg, and Hanover during his lifetime. Penners designed the tax office as a multi-wing brick building in baroque-style forms of Heimat-style architecture. The tax office is located on the site of a former garrison hospital, adjacent to the then still existing Duburg Barracks. The aforementioned barracks were only demolished in 1990 and replaced by a new local employment office building. As a result, the tax office was assigned a special urban planning position. The tax office has the address Duburger Straße 58–64 but also lies at the upper end of the Burgplatz, which it borders to the northwest. In the sight axis of the Burgplatz stands the forecourt of the tax office building. A wide staircase leads to the main entrance, above which hangs a stone relief tablet with the inscription "Finanzamt." The central building originally housed the actual tax office, while the northern wing contained customs offices and the Reichsbauamt. Staff residences were located in the southern wing and in the street wing, which is clearly visible by the balconies present there. The building is capped by low hipped roofs.
