Mulmshorn is located about 10 km northwest of the town of Rotenburg and thus occupies the northern edge of the city area. Mulmshorn is surrounded by Horstedt, Hesedorf, Bötersen and Gyhum.
In the course of the 20th century, peat was mined in Mulmshorn for over 50 years. For this purpose, peat plants were also operated in Mulmshorn.
Today, Mulmshorn is characterized by a few full-time farms and some small and medium-sized enterprises.
