Lower Oste

The Untere Oste is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Oberndorf, Cadenberge and the village of Neuhaus in the Samtgemeinde Land Hadeln in the district of Cuxhaven and the municipality of Balje in the Samtgemeinde Nordkehdingen in the district of Stade.

The nature reserve with the designation NSG LÜ 318 is around 469 hectares in size. Parts of the protected area are also part of the FFH area "Lower Elbe". The nature reserve "Schnook, Außendeichsflächen bei Geversdorf", which was designated in 2004, has been merged into the nature reserve "Untere Oste". To the north are the nature reserves "Ostesee" and "Wildvogelreservat Nordkehdingen". The area has been under protection since 17 November 2017. The responsible lower nature conservation authority are the districts of Cuxhaven and Stade.
