The Stone House in Marburg survived the devastating major fire of 1319, which almost claimed the entire city. The building was constructed from sandstone in the Gothic style, with the gabled stair and the medieval toilet bay being typical features.
The massive stone construction was unusual in Marburg at that time, as residential houses in the old town were built in half-timbered style until the 19th century. The Stone House was inhabited from the mid-14th to the 19th century by prominent patrician and citizen families, landgrave officials, and professors.
