The Lakes in the Lippeniederung landscape conservation area with an area of 221.56 hectares is located in the urban area of Paderborn in the district of Paderborn. The landscape conservation area was designated by the district council in 1999 with the Paderborn – Bad Lippspringe landscape plan. The LSG consists of two sub-areas.
One of the two sub-areas lies northwest of Elsen and the other east of Neuhaus Castle. The LSG comprises nine quarry ponds. There are six quarry ponds in the western area. Five of them bear the names Nettelnbrecker See, Alter Mühlensee, Mühlensee, Jothesee and Holzbachsee. Of the three eastern lakes, one is called Tallesee. Behind the B 1 lies the Lippeniederung nature reserve between Bad Lippspringe and Mastbruch with the Lippe. North and west of the western area there are other quarry ponds outside the LSG.
